Martin Luther King was a central to the progress of the American Civil Rights movement during the 1950s and 1960s. Prior to this time laws segregated the black and white populations. With his famous "I have a Dream" speech delivered in Washington in 1963, King described his vision of an America where all people would be judged "not on the colour of their skin, but the content of their character"
