David Simpson MP has today marked the state opening of parliament by tabling an Early Day Motion on the importance of the 2011 celebrations. He congratulated the King James Bible Trust for the plans it is making. An Early Day Motion may be tabled by a Member of the Parliament to draw other Members' attention to something they feel to be an important issue.

400th Anniversary Of The King James Bible
That this House recognises that aside from its religious significance and impact, the King James or Authorized Version of the Bible has made an immense positive social, political, cultural and literary contribution to the United Kingdom; further recognises the positive impact that the AV has had across the world; notes that 2011 will mark the 400th anniversary of the Authorized Version; congratulates the King James Bible Trust (www.kingjamesbibletrust.org) in the plans it is making to celebrate this anniversary; welcomes the advance commitment of the BBC to mark it on radio, television and online; and calls upon the Department of Culture, Media and Sport to officially mark this significant anniversary.
