The Full 1611
At the invitation of the Revd Simon Jones, Chaplain of Merton College Oxford, four actors are presenting a one-night show which tells the story of our salvation using every book of the Bible in a 100 minutes. All the Biblical quotes will be from the King James translation and will include as many well-known ones in daily speech as we can work in. The Choir of Merton College Oxford will add joy and gravitas singing relevant sections from Handel’s Messiah and Stainer’s Crucifixion’.
Obviously, some cheating will go on but the Biblical narrative will never be lost as the story moves from the Fall of Man to his eventual redemption in Jesus Christ. It will, in other words, be ‘serious fast-paced fun’.
Merton College was of course the base for one group of translators, headed up by Sir Henry Savile.
The show is narrated and scripted by Sarah Lenton veteran of many similar shows for The Royal Opera and The Royal Ballet in the Royal Opera House Linbury Theatre and for the BBC. It is directed by Jane Trigle with similar Royal Opera House experience and the actors include Alan Cheeseman, Philippa Ritchie and Oliver Stephens of The Globe Players fame.
