The Bible in Voice and Verse

The King James Authorized Version of the Bible (1611) is one of the treasures of the English language. It has left its mark on our daily speech in many turns of phrase we use, perhaps without knowing where they come from. As the handbook for Christian worship and instruction in the English-speaking world for over 300 years, it has inspired vast amounts of music, in hymns, anthems, spirituals and oratorios.

2011 is the 400th Anniversary of its publication and to mark the event "In Voice and Verse" have created a unique presentation. The concert aims to celebrate the impact of the Bible in words and music. Lance Pierson recites key passages from the Bible interspersed with performances of famous pieces of music which those words inspired, sung by Belinda Yates. The music will include excerpts from Haydn's 'Creation', Handel's 'Messiah' and SS Wesley's 'Blessed be the God and Father' amongst many others.

Run Time: Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes plus interval.
